last100: Life is good for Apple’s iPhone

I agree. The iPhone & iTouch are really a platform. One that Apple could develop into generations of backward compatible products; much like the iMACs. This could represent a formidable barrier to anyone who tries to sway an iPhone/iTouch user to user their product instead.

The market for the iphone is huge. Everyone loved the ipod, so as soon as they heard of the iphone they had to buy it. With the 3g coming out sometime next year, I think we can expect the iphone to keep doing good.

what will be interesting to see is how apple responds to the google-powered phones and the open networks, which are not here yet and we may not see for some time (the ones won in next year's spectrum auction must be completely open). even so, google-powered phones and perceived openness could railroad the iphone -- even with the software developer's kit coming in february. maybe the 2g phones will be like the 3g ipod (which introduced the windows world to not only the ipod but itunes and apple). that's when the ipod really took off.
